From download to your first captioned video

Four steps, a few minutes. Captixa does the typing and timing; you make the creative calls.

    Install Captixa

    Run the installer on Windows, or drag Captixa into Applications on a Mac. Everything it needs is inside.

    Pick a transcription engine

    In Settings, choose local Whisper (free, offline, no key) or paste a Groq or OpenAI key.

    Load a video and style it

    Drag in a video, let it transcribe, then pick one of 108 caption presets.

    Export

    Save an MP4 with the captions burned in, up to 4K, or an SRT file.

Free with local Whisper, or fast with Groq

Local Whisper runs on your computer: download a model once in Settings, from 75 MB to 3 GB, and transcribe with no internet and no key. For faster results on long videos, use a free Groq key.

Your video stays on your computer

With Groq or OpenAI, only the extracted audio is sent for transcription. With local Whisper, nothing leaves your machine.

Get a free Groq key in 2 minutes

  1. Open console.groq.com and sign in. A Google or GitHub account works.
  2. Go to API Keys and choose Create API Key. Give it any name, like "Captixa".
  3. Copy the key straight away. Groq only shows it once.
  4. In Captixa, open Settings choose Groq as the transcription engine, paste the key and save. It is stored on your computer only.

Groq's free tier covers most creators. OpenAI and Gemini keys work too, billed by them directly.

No gaming PC needed. Captixa exports on the CPU on any computer; an NVIDIA or Intel GPU on Windows just makes it faster.

Is Captixa free to download?

Yes. The download includes the Free plan: every caption style and feature, 5 videos a day up to 2 minutes each, with a Captixa.com watermark on exports. No account or card is needed.

Which Mac version should I download?

Pick Apple silicon if your Mac has an M1 chip or newer, and Intel for an Intel-based Mac. Open the Apple menu, then About This Mac: it says Chip or Processor.

Windows shows a SmartScreen warning. What do I do?

Windows can show this for a new release before it builds up a reputation. Choose More info, then Run anyway. The Windows install guide shows every step.

macOS says the app cannot be opened. What do I do?

The first time, right-click Captixa in Applications and choose Open, then Open again. If macOS says the app is damaged, run xattr -cr "/Applications/Captixa.app" in Terminal. The Mac install guide shows every step.

Do I need an API key?

Only for cloud transcription or translation. Local Whisper needs no key and works offline. Groq offers a free tier; OpenAI and Gemini bill you directly. Keys are stored on your computer only.

Does it work offline?

Yes, with local Whisper: transcribing, styling, editing and exporting all work without internet. Translation and Roman-script conversion need a connection.

How do I activate Pro?

Open Captixa, go to License, paste the key from your email and click Activate. One computer at a time; switch from your dashboard whenever you like.
