Fix "Captixa is damaged and can't be opened" on Mac

One Terminal command clears the download mark macOS puts on new apps. Nothing about the app or your Mac's security changes.

macOS shows this message for downloaded apps that are not yet notarized with Apple. The app is fine.

The fix

  1. Make sure Captixa is in your Applications folder.
  2. Open Terminal (Command and Space, type Terminal, press Return).
  3. Paste this command and press Return:
    xattr -cr "/Applications/Captixa.app"
  4. Open Captixa from Applications. From now on it opens normally.

If nothing appears after you press Return, it worked: Terminal stays quiet when a command succeeds.

"Operation not permitted"

Run it with sudo. It asks for your Mac password, and nothing appears while you type it:

sudo xattr -cr "/Applications/Captixa.app"

The app closes as soon as it opens

You probably have the build for the other kind of Mac. Delete it, then download the one that matches your chip (Apple silicon or Intel) from the download page.
